I got the one phone call I've been waiting all day and all week for. The director of the Mary Bryant Home finally called me back this morning. I was able to further explain to him why I'm considering living there next semester instead of on the UIS campus. I told him that my physical disability has presented me with lots of accessibility challenges this year, most of which couldn't be made any better.
He informed me that he'll send me some forms that my docor needs to fill out, and have returned to him. He said he'll e-mail me those forms as soon as he can. I explained that I'll have my mom get those forms filled out- and returned to him as soon as they've been completely filled out by my doctor. I was also told that once I returned the forms, they'd be reviewed by the state Health Department to see if there are any health concerns that might pose a problem of me Living at the Mary Bryant Home.
One thing he told me is that I'd be responsible for scheduling transportation to and from school, but someone would accompany me- as my vision makes it difficult for me to see street signs to know where I am. I gave him my course schedule for next semester, explaining that my art class gets out at 5:30, but I'm aware that the Access Springfield transportation system doesn't run past that time. He informed me that a proposal to have it run longer is currently in the works.
I was able to tentatively set up a more formal interview and tour of the facility for the week that school gets out for the summer. I tentatively set this meeting up because I don't yet know when I'm having- or if I will end up having a final in Math.
