An Interesting Opportunity

Tomorrow morning brings an awesomely amazing opportunity for me. I have the chance to lobby on the State Capital. I'm not really sure what that exactly consists of; all I know is that I would really like to see some chances for the disability community on our campus to have their chance to be able to enjoy life. Right now, that is a challenge- since there aren't really any sports/fitness programs that are tailored to our needs. Plus, there is currently no fitness equipment that is accessible to our abilities.
Hopefully, that will soon change. If not this year, I hope this happens in the near future. I, and a few of my fellow Disability Rights Activism friends have started a petition to encourage our University to impliment some adaptive fitness programs, so that the special needs students will feel like we are an equal part of this campus community.
I hope that- by lobbying tomorrow, I can try to inform our legislators that they need to help the students with physical disabilities all over our state, not just here at UIS. Disabled students all over this state often feel like they really aren't equal members of their communities, due to lack of accessible sports and fitness programs.

My Interesting Life As a Student

Springfield, Illinois, United States
I'm living in Springfield, but I'm originally from Chicago. I am now living in a group home for people who are visually impaired. Living at the Mary Bryant Home has been a huge step in my life. I am now able to get involved in activities every day. I am making lots of new friends, and I'm enjoying living with my new family. Since I'm the youngest person, I feel like I have lots of parents and grandparents, and even my best friend, who is like a big sister, to spend my time with. I don't think I'd change this for anything else in the world.
